Earning Small Business of the Year honors for California’s Ninth Assembly District, Lumberyard Cellars in Escalon was selected for the recognition by Assemblyman Heath Flora.
At a special ceremony hosted at the venue on First Street, owners/operators Derick and Megan Webb were presented with a plaque commemorating their selection, with Assemblyman Flora on hand to make the presentation.
Lumberyard Cellars, a tasting room in the heart of Escalon at The Merchant Yard, 1455 First St., was opened by the Webbs in 2021, as they turned their shared passion for wine into a business.
Derick Webb, who studied Enology at California State University, Fresno, and Megan, who studied Agricultural Business, combined their expertise to produce their quality wine.
The official announcement for the Small Business of the Year selection stated: “No matter if you are a seasoned wine enthusiast or new to the world of wine, Lumberyard Cellars offers an inviting experience for every guest. They offer a variety of different wines, charcuterie boards, and high-quality local products for people to try. On the second Saturday of each month, they host an event with live music and food trucks, creating a vibrant gathering place for the community. This place is more than a tasting room for the people of Escalon; it’s a place where people go to connect.”
In keeping with the second Saturday event schedule, Lumberyard Cellars is putting on a special celebration on Saturday, July 11, when they will mark their fifth anniversary in business. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and feature live music by Matt Davis, food by Twisted Pig BBQ, cornhole, Lumberyard and wine trivia, and more.
