Goals have been hard to come by for Escalon’s varsity soccer girls, and they dropped a pair of non-league contests in recent action.

They were at Calaveras on Dec. 6, falling there by a 3-1 final. Alondra Martinez notched the single goal for the Lady Cougars, with an assist from Peyton Arnold. Leticia Gutierrez had six saves in goal.

Monday, Dec. 12 the girls faced off against Bret Harte and could not find the net against the Bullfrogs, taking a 4-0 loss. Gutierrez did have four saves.

The JV girls, meanwhile, split their most recent games.

After suffering a 9-0 road loss to Calaveras on Dec. 6, they put that defeat behind them, regrouped and got a victory.

“It was our first win of the season, 3-0 against Bret Harte,” JV coach Jen Schmidt said of the Dec. 12 victory.

Leading the way were Hailie Webster with a pair of goals, Mariana Guerrero with a goal and an assist. Adding assists were Iris Lagunas and Bereniz Gallo.

“Monserrat Rodriguez played sweeper for us and had an incredible game,” Schmidt said.

This week, the teams head to Amador for a game today, Wednesday, Dec. 14 and then are scheduled to be home to host Summerville on Thursday, Dec. 15.
