Ethel Halliday Scheffel, 90, of Escalon died Thursday, Dec. 30 at Doctor's Medical Center in Modesto.

A native of Hooper, Utah, she moved to Escalon in 1922 and lived here until 1968, when she moved to Manteca. She lived in Manteca until 2001, then moved back to Escalon and resided here until her death. She was a homemaker.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her cats. She was a loving mother and was known for giving guidance and comfort to friends and family during good times as well as bad.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally Scheffel Rebeiro of Manteca; brother, Raymond Halliday of Indio, CA and sister Shirley Kester of San Leandro, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hugo Scheffel in 1968; two brothers and 5 sisters, as well as son-in-law Virgil Rebeiro, who passed away in 2003.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at 12:30 p.m. at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 East River Road in Escalon.

Remembrances may be made to a charity of choice.
