With the observance of National Night Out coming up on Tuesday, Aug. 1, Escalon residents in 13 separate areas will be hosting neighborhood gatherings.
Escalon Police Chief Gustavo Flores said this year, there will be two groups of First Responders/City Officials making visits, with each stopping at several locations.
Route 1 has seven stops on the schedule; there are six stops along Route 2. Flores said when the caravan members gather prior to the start of the night's rounds, they will split up into the two groups.
Each group is expected to include police, firefighters, ambulance personnel and city representatives.
Route one on the night will begin at 6 p.m. and start at Saron Lutheran Church, 1742 North Street, running through 6:20 p.m.
Stops to follow are at 1212 Sierra Drive from 6:25 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Blossom Avenue/Jordanolo Street from 6:50 p.m.to 7:10 p.m.; 2416 Jonathan Drive from 7:15 p.m. to 7:35 p.m.; 1412 Carolyn Avenue from 7:40 p.m. to 8 p.m.; 1553 Sophie Lane from 8:05 to 8:25 p.m.; and 1546 Oakwood Drive from 8:30 p.m. to 8:50 p.m.
“Rather than doing 15 minutes at each stop, we will be doing 20 minutes,” Flores said of having a little bit more time to mingle with residents.
Route two has the same times, with one less stop, and a different slate of gatherings; starting on Palomino Court from 6 p.m. to 6:20 p.m.; Chardonnay Court from 6:25 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Grenache Way from 6:50 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.; 916 California Street from 7:15 p.m. to 7:35 p.m.; 2037 California from 7:40 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and rounding out the evening on Winterbrook Street, 8:05 p.m. to 8:25 p.m.
Activities scheduled include a potluck, water slides, cornhole, lawn games, tacos, a couple of barbecues, ice cream and desserts. The goal of National Night Out, hosted the first Tuesday in August in communities across the country, is to bring neighborhood residents together to ‘take back the night’ from crime, giving first responders the opportunity to meet with local citizens in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Escalon also includes City Council members, City Hall staff and representatives from various departments, also providing an informal way for those city officials to meet with the public.
