Coming up on Saturday, May 6 it’s another Science Saturday event at the Escalon Public Library on Second Street, this time featuring Bubblesmith Sterling Johnson. The noontime show is open to all ages; come and see this bubblesmith share the science of bubbles. Later in the month, Uncle Jer’s Traveling Bee Show comes to the library on Saturday, May 20. Also set for noon, the program will provide information about the society of bees, film clips and insight into how a hive works.

The Escalon American Legion and Legion Riders Post – Chapter 263 will host an Armed Forces Day breakfast on Saturday, May 20 at the Escalon Masonic Hall, 1500 Viking St, Escalon. All active duty Armed Forces personnel will be provided breakfast at no charge. Hours for breakfast are 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children under 10. Menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, linguica, fruit cup, milk, juice and coffee. All are welcome to attend and support the local American Legion.

The local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club gathers for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 10. Happy and Healthy, a special program offered in cooperation with the Human Services Agency, is geared toward local senior citizens as a way to help them improve their health, one bite at a time. If you need simple ideas to eat healthier and tips to save time in the kitchen, join this free class, which runs on Thursdays at noon at the Escalon Community Center. Delta College, in partnership with San Joaquin WorkNet, will host the Annual Spring Job and Career Fair, Thursday, May 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Delta College’s Danner Hall. All auto enthusiasts in the area are invited to come join in the Car and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the show being staged by the 50’s Roadhouse in Knights Ferry and American Veterans First. The Roadhouse is at 18341 Kennedy Road, Knights Ferry; bring your car or motorcycle and hang out. Entry fee is a tax deductible donation of $30; first 150 paid entries will receive a special T-shirt. McHenry Mansion in Modesto will be the site for a special Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday, May 13. The Tea Luncheons have been a tradition for many local families and benefit the Mansion Foundation in maintaining this historical location. McHenry Mansion is at 906 15th St., Modesto and two seatings are planned for the May 13 event. An Armed Forces Day Concert is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 7 p.m. at Ripon Christian High School Performing Arts Center, 435 Maple Ave., Ripon. Voices for the King, a male chorus, will perform inspirational and patriotic music in recognition of national armed service members, local law enforcement and fire department members along with a color guard presentation. This concert is free.

San Joaquin County Senior Awareness Day has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 24 this year. Events will be hosted at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds and run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Theme for the day will be the Fabulous 50’s and there will be food, entertainment, a classic car show, wellness walk, senior art show, Bingo, a variety of exhibitors and more, in addition to multiple fun giveaways.
