Basketball Squads Prep For TVL

Holiday action is over, with the Escalon basketball teams now ready to jump into the tough Trans-Valley League schedule.

Escalon's girls were busy over the break with appearances in the Ripon Christian Tournament for the varsity girls, and the Ripon Tournament for the freshmen and JV.

The varsity squad took a pair of losses, dropping a 61-42 decision to host squad Ripon Christian on Dec. 27; and taking a hard fought 33-28 loss to Central Catholic on Dec. 28. They rounded out the appearance with a big win, 58-17 over Delhi in the final game of their tournament run, Dec. 29.

For the basketball boys, only the JV team was in action, playing at the Merced Tournament on Dec. 28 and 29.

Due to earlier deadlines for the holiday week production schedule, results were not available at presstime.

This week, league plays starts for all teams.

The varsity boys and coach Martin Louro kick things off against one of the toughest teams in league, Riverbank, hosting the Bruins on Friday night, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

JV coach is Nate Bartelink and freshman coach is David Anderson, with those squads in action earlier on Friday, leading up to the varsity tip off. Freshmen play at 4:30 p.m. and the JV at 6 p.m.

The varsity girls are coached this year by Joseph Dalpogetti and will take on Riverbank in a 7:30 p.m. contest to start TVL play on the road Thursday, Jan. 4. JV coach is Andrew Beam and Kristie Cathcart leads the freshman team.The first home game for the girls in league play will be Monday, Jan. 9 hosting Ripon, with the freshmen at 4:30 p.m., JV at 6 p.m. and the varsity girls at 7:30 p.m.
