Mary Sanchez Loumena, 92, of Escalon passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

She was born in Yountville, CA on June 23, 1920 to Francisco and Isabel Silveria. When Mary was six weeks old her parents, along with her sister Angie and brother Manuel, moved to Escalon to their new ranch on Van Allen Road. Shortly after the move to Escalon, her brother Frank and sister Lena were born and completed the family.

Mary attended Van Allen School and Escalon High School where she graduated in 1938.

While working as a weigh master at Gardner Brothers, she met her husband Charles "Charlie" Sanchez while he was weighing in a load of melons. They were married on Oct. 11, 1942 at St. Patrick's Church. They had two children Eileen (Riesenbeck) and Norman. Norman passed away in 2004 from a battle with cancer. During their 37 years of marriage they farmed grapes and later took the property and developed a sub-division known as Vintage Estates. Charlie passed away in 1979. Mary and her children finished the sub-division. During that time Mary married Henry Loumena, who has since passed away.

A founding charter member of the Escalon Historical Society and Museum, she was instrumental in its formation and it will always be her legacy. In her earlier years she was a member of YLI and Kiwanis. She was an active member of the Ladies of Escalon and Grandmother's Club. Mary loved to travel, garden, and cook. She especially loved to watch her grandchildren grow up and in the later years her great grandchildren. Her love for her family, friends, and her devotion to the Lord, were evident to all.

Survivors include her sister, Lena Doyle and brother, Frank Silveria both of Escalon; her daughter, Eileen (Gary) Riesenbeck of Escalon; her daughter-in-law Caren Sanchez of Escalon; seven grandchildren Staci (Kelly) Hatfield of Hughson, Julie (Dusty) Fox of Escalon, Steve (Jill) Riesenbeck of Escalon, Emily Sanchez of Alaska, Joshua Sanchez of Escalon, Brady Sanchez of Barstow, Meghan Sanchez of Escalon; and five great-grandchildren, Jack Kundert, Cole and Kendall Fox, Wyatt Riesenbeck and Cade Riesenbeck.
