Funeral services for Jack Ben Storne, 72, of Gridley, who passed away August 27, 2016 at Orchard Hospital will be held Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at The Father’s House Church located at 10720 Highway 99 in Live Oak, CA. A Memorial Graveside Service will also be held at Lakewood Memorial Park at 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, CA on Saturday, September 3. Please check Lakewood Memorial Park website for the time of the service, as the time had not been confirmed by press time.
Jack was born June 18, 1944 in Oakland, CA where he lived until age 14. His family then moved to Modesto, CA where Jack attended and graduated from Downey High School. Jack served in the Marine Corps then returned to Modesto and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Master’s Degree in Psychology, and Ph.D. in Psychology from California State University, Stanislaus.
Following service in the Marine Corps, Jack worked as a Psych Tech at Modesto State Hospital, then decided to become a police officer. Jack served as a police officer in Modesto, CA; Hayward, CA; Sandpoint, Idaho; Denver, Colorado then returned to California to work at Escalon Police Department. He worked his way up the ranks from patrolman to Chief of Police in 1982. Later, Jack served Escalon as the City Administrator and Director of Public Safety until 1993 when he wished to return to full time law enforcement duties and moved to Gridley, CA to serve as Chief of Police until retirement in 2006. After retirement, he continued to serve the communities of Gridley and Biggs as a contract employee and Reserve and Chaplain, until the time of his death. Jack also dedicated time to serving his Church as a licensed minister and was recently ordained into ministry in the Church of the Brethren denomination after completing several years of study. He also was involved with the Orchard Hospital Foundation, where he served as the Chair until the time of his death.
Jack is preceded in death by his mother Katherine Storne, and his loving wife of 47 years, Wilma Storne.
Jack is survived by his son Jack, Jr. (Soleena); daughter Kirsten Storne-Piazza (Jason); granddaughters Elizabeth and Kaitlyn Piazza of Gridley; grandsons Tony, Timothy and Joseph, all of Chico.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling the world, studying/education and serving his community and church.

A reception will be held following the funeral service on September 1 at the Gridley Moose Lodge on Highway 99 and a reception will be held at the Modesto Church of the Brethren on September 3 following the Graveside Service.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley Block Funeral Chapel.
