Albert Johnson passed away peacefully on September 8, 2017 in Modesto surrounded by his family.
Albert was born on October 12, 1932 in Burns, Oregon to Luther and Hazel Johnson. He grew up on his family’s dairy and cattle ranch in Escalon and after graduating from Escalon High School enlisted into the Merchant Marines and served in Korea. After being discharged from the Army he went to work for Caltrans for nearly 30 years. Albert retired and returned to his family ranch in Escalon where he spent his time farming almonds.
Albert was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 263 and was also a member of the Escalon Historical Society and Saron Lutheran Church. Above all else Albert loved his family. His greatest joy in life was hosting family events, especially Sunday afternoons at the family ranch, spending time with his siblings, children and grandchildren.
Albert leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline Johnson, his children; Deborah Avila (John) and Daniel Johnson (Amy), his grandchildren; Thomas, Katherine and Julia Avila and Daniel Jr. and Samuel Johnson along with his siblings; Richard Johnson (Charlotte) and Ruth Cohagan (Ron). Albert is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Ethel Ritchey, Alice Johanson and David Johnson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapels. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, September 16 at 10 a.m. at Saron Lutheran Church in Escalon followed by graveside services and military honors at Burwood Cemetery.
