The Modesto Children’s Museum – MoChiMu – recently announced the appointment of Katie Trausch as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Trausch, who has served as Interim CEO for the past two months, was selected following a comprehensive nationwide search. The Board of Directors unanimously confirmed her appointment, citing her clear vision, collaborative leadership, and deep commitment to the Museum’s mission.

“The Board has full confidence in Katie’s ability to lead the Museum into its next chapter,” said Amy Abid Jeffries, Board President. “Katie has shown herself to be a thoughtful and collaborative leader who cares deeply about this organization and the families we serve. She understands both the heart of our mission and the work required to sustain and grow it. The Board is excited for what lies ahead under her leadership.”

“I am truly looking forward to partnering with Katie as I step into the role of Board President this July,” said Laura Gutierrez, Board President-Elect. “Katie brings not only a deep knowledge of this institution, but also a genuine passion for the children and families we serve. Her collaborative spirit, ambitious vision for the Museum’s future, and commitment to continuous improvement make her exactly the leader MoChiMu needs. She is deeply focused on growing the Museum’s impact through stronger community relationships, expanded outreach, enhanced processes, and a culture of excellence that will continue moving the organization toward best-in-class operations and experiences. I have no doubt the best is ahead for MoChiMu.”

Trausch joined the Modesto Children’s Museum before its doors opened, serving as one of the organization’s earliest hires. As Chief Operating Officer, she played a central role in shaping the Museum’s operations, culture, and the systems that have supported its growth and success. Over the past two months as Interim CEO, she has provided steady leadership, worked collaboratively with the staff and Board, and championed the Museum’s strategic priorities with both focus and heart.

“I am honored to accept this role,” said Trausch. “Modesto is a special place — vibrant, creative, and full of people who show genuine care by continually investing in our community. Our team and board are a beautiful reflection of that, and it’s been rewarding to work alongside people who care so deeply about this resource for families in the Central Valley and beyond. I’m looking forward to building upon our strong foundation and ensuring that MoChiMu is a place that families cherish for generations to come.”

With a strong operational foundation in place and growing community support, the Modesto Children’s Museum is well-positioned for its next phase of impact and expansion. Under Trausch’s leadership, the Museum will continue to build on the momentum established since its opening, deepening its role as a beloved destination for children and families throughout the Central Valley.

Gutierrez will assume the role of Board President on July 1, 2026, succeeding Jeffries, who has served as Board President during a significant period of growth and transition for the organization.
