At the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, June 2, the Board proclaimed the month of June as Portuguese Awareness Month in San Joaquin County. The item was placed on the agenda at the request of District 5 Supervisor Robert Rickman.

“It was a pleasure to sponsor and place the Portuguese Awareness Month Proclamation on the agenda, and I was honored to introduce it during the Board of Supervisors meeting,” Supervisor Rickman said. “I wish to thank I.P.F.E.S. Tracy President Michael Silva, Festa Director Deolinda Faria-Payley, Rainha Senior Jocelyn Silveira, Rainha Junior Juliana Silva, and Rainha Pequena Isabela Silva for accepting the proclamation. The Portuguese community has made significant contributions to San Joaquin County, California, and the United States. I’m proud of my Portuguese heritage and proud to be a member of the Portuguese community.”

Rickman represents Escalon as part of the fifth district of San Joaquin County.

Also, as a way to increase efficiency, Supervisor Rickman announced this week that he is realigning outreach to the Escalon community effective June 11, 2026.

District Office Hours, with Rickman being represented by Board Aide Maria Valenzuela, will now be scheduled for the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Escalon City Hall, 2060 McHenry Ave., Escalon.

The new schedule goes into effect with the Thursday, June 11 District Office Hours.
