An early evening two-vehicle collision on Wednesday, July 7 claimed one life in the rural area outside Escalon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the call came in about 6:50 p.m., and was reported on Lone Tree Road, west of Brennan Road.

San Joaquin County Coroner’s officials late Tuesday, July 13 released the identity of the fatal victim. He was identified as Jose Serrano, 43, of Escalon. The initial CHP report had a different age for the victim and the name was not available in time for this week’s print edition of The Times.

According to the CHP report, Serrano was driving his Kubota off road vehicle east on Lone Tree at an unknown speed west of Brennan. At the same time, a 57-year-old man from Manteca was driving his Ford F-150 westbound on Lone Tree approaching the Kubota.

CHP officials said Serrano failed to see the approaching Ford and steered to the left, directly in the path of the oncoming Ford truck. The driver of the Ford applied his brakes and steered to the right but was unable to avoid striking the Kubota. The front of the Ford struck the Kubota, which pushed the Kubota in a westerly direction where it collided with a power pole on the north shoulder of Lone Tree Road.

Serrano, who was unrestrained, was ejected on to the north shoulder and sustained fatal injuries. The Ford came to rest on the north shoulder west of the Kubota. The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries, according to the CHP report.
