Modesto Junior College has welcomed Rosie Zepeda, M.Ed. as the newest member of the college staff team. Zepeda will be fulfilling duties in the newly created position of Director of Public Relations to oversee the college’s Public Relations Department. Her hiring was approved by the Yosemite Board of Trustees on Dec. 11, 2019 and Zepeda officially started her new post on Dec. 15, 2019.

Zepeda joins MJC with over 10 years’ experience in communications, public relations and community outreach, most recently as Communication Business Manager at the Diocese of San Jose and Marketing Advisor at College of San Mateo. Before that, she held positions as Digital Coach at Google, Director of Communications at Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Silicon Valley Board, creating the successful strategy plan to increase membership and establish the first chapters at local community colleges.

“MJC has such a strong tradition of community. Almost everyone has a family member or knows someone who has attended,” Zepeda said. “I feel like I have come full circle by returning to my education roots at a Hispanic serving institution with a commitment to excellence. I have come home.”

MJC President Dr. James Houpis, who also came from the Bay Area, delightedly added: “Rosie brings such a depth of knowledge on community college education, digital platforms and data analytics in communications. Add to this her down to earth demeanor and collaborative nature, she will greatly contribute to the next chapter of the second 100 years at MJC.”
