Escalon’s United Methodist Church on Jackson Avenue has long been the site of a popular summer staple – the annual Ice Cream Social.

On the schedule once again for early August, the event signals the traditional end of summer/return to school for local residents and brings together church members and community members to share in the homemade treats.

This year, organizers believe, will be the 20th annual event. Parishioners prepare a variety of homemade ice cream and there are also other desserts including slices of pie, cake or brownies. There is no cost to attend but donations are accepted and the social is open to all in the community. Date and time are Saturday, Aug. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
