Local Races Loom For Election Day
Vote1

Voters go to the polls next Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the Presidential General Election, with a few local races of note as well.

In Escalon, three candidates are vying for two seats on the Escalon City Council, two candidates are seeking to fill one available school board seat and three candidates are running for two positions on the Escalon Consolidated Fire Protection District Board.

Incumbent Jeff Laugero, former councilman Walt Murken and businessman/superintendent Will Smith are each running for a four-year term on the city council and met last month in a candidate forum at the library. Candidates run at large and the two receiving the most votes will win the seats.

For the school district’s Trustee Area 3, incumbent Amy Bavaro is being challenged by Realtor/farmer Nick Caton for the post.

Incumbents Steve Reichmuth and James New are both seeking re-election to the fire board, challenged by paramedic Josh Cummings. The top two vote getters in that race will earn the posts.

In the Congressional race for District 10, incumbent Jeff Denham and Michael Eggman square off, while Ken Vogel and Heath Flora are both in the running for the State Assembly District 12 seat being vacated by Kristin Olsen. State Senate District 5 voters will choose between Cathleen Galgiani and Alan Nakanishi.
