Firefighters Offer Boots

Members of the Escalon Consolidated Fire Protection District will be out in force this weekend, collecting donations for a pair of causes.

The crews will be out at the main intersection of Highway 120/Main Street/Escalon-Bellota Road and McHenry Avenue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. They will be armed with their turnout boots, collecting donations for the Firefighters Burn Institute and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Coordinator Drew Newell said the group wanted to aid both charitable causes this year. Motorists stopped at red lights in the intersection will be approached by the firefighters seeking the donations. They are given a flyer to place on their dashboard upon making a donation, so they won’t be asked again if they come back through the intersection during the weekend.

Next weekend, it will be the letter carriers turn, as they host the annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive on Saturday, May 11 to help ‘Stamp Out Hunger.’ They will be collecting non-perishable food items to be delivered to the local C.A.R.E. Center on Second Street, which benefits needy families in the area.
