Tickets are available now at a number of downtown businesses for the ‘First Breath of Spring Stroll’ scheduled for Thursday, May 11. The annual wine stroll, sponsored by the Escalon Chamber of Commerce, will be hosted from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. along Main Street downtown and include wine, food, music, craft booths and plenty of socializing and networking. Pre-sale tickets are available for $25 – must be 21 or over – and tickets at the event will be $30. The local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club gathers for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 17. Join in with the Escalon American Legion and Legion Riders Post – Chapter 263 as they host an Armed Forces Day breakfast on Saturday, May 20 at the Escalon Masonic Hall, 1500 Viking St, Escalon. All active duty Armed Forces personnel will be provided breakfast at no charge. Hours for breakfast are 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children under 10. Menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, linguica, fruit cup, milk, juice and coffee. All are welcome to attend and support the local American Legion.

Junior and senior girls in high school are being encouraged to seek the title of Miss Escalon 2017, with informational meetings coming up later this month. Contestants must reside in the Escalon Unified School District or attend Escalon High School. Informational meetings are scheduled on Wednesday, May 24 and Wednesday, May 31, both meetings at 6 p.m., hosted at Pizza Plus in Escalon. If you love Escalon and want to represent your community as part of the 2017 Miss Escalon Court, come to one of the informational meetings and learn all about the pageant, which is hosted during Park Fete Week in July. Happy and Healthy, a special program offered in cooperation with the Human Services Agency, is geared toward local senior citizens as a way to help them improve their health, one bite at a time. If you need simple ideas to eat healthier and tips to save time in the kitchen, join this free class, which runs on Thursdays at noon at the Escalon Community Center.
