The Valley Art Association, VAA, 2017 Carriage Art Show will be open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., staged at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale.
In the last VAA show, 47 awards were presented for art in oil, acrylic, water media, soft pastel, graphics/mixed media, photography, sculpture, Western and Carriage themes plus an award from Oakdale Mayor Pat Paul. This show is once again sponsored by The City of Oakdale and Oakdale Tourism and Visitors Bureau.
Valley Art Association has been promoting the Arts in the community since 1972 and is a mon-profit 501(c)3 organization. Member artists come from throughout the region. All proceeds from the Carriage Art Show go to support the Valley Art Association Scholarship fund.
A special Artists’ Reception is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 with show awards presented at 4 p.m.
Entries for the show are open to all interested. Entry fee is $15 per artwork. VAA members’ fee is $12 per artwork. Artists may enter a maximum of four artworks. Make checks payable to Valley Art Association.
The Art Show is open to all U.S. artists over 16 years of age. All artwork must be original in concept. Compositions from published material will not be considered original. Work done under classroom supervision is acceptable if done solely by the artist. Works must have been completed within the last two years.
Family friendly and handicapped accessible, all art work will be on display at the Bianchi Community Center for the public to view. The show is chaired by Vonnie Muniain and produced by members of the Valley Art Association.
Some of the 2016 award winners were: Eliseo Contreras Vazquez-Best of Show, Eduardo F. Garcia-Carriage Painting, Joan Cardoza-Western Award, Vonnie Muniain-Mayor’s Award and current VAA President John Lenhart-People’s Choice Award.
Hand delivered artwork will be accepted at the show site on Thursday, Feb. 16 between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and again on Friday, Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. For questions about the show, contact Muniain at (209) 840-8058.
Valley Art Association Awards will include: Best of Show $200 plus Ribbon, Carriage Painting Award $50 plus Ribbon, Western Painting Award $50 plus Ribbon, Mayor’s Award $35 plus Ribbon.
There will also be First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention for multiple classes with prize money of $100 for First place, plus ribbon; and ribbons for second place, third place and honorable mention.
Media and Classes: Class 1: Carriage Class - Any medium is acceptable but must have a carriage or carriages as part of the subject. Class 2: Western. Class 3: Oil and Acrylic. Class 4: Watermedia - Acrylics can be included in this class when they are handled in a more traditional watercolor style. Class 5: Soft Pastel. Class 6: Graphics - Includes drawings in pencil, ink and other illustration mediums. Class 7: Mixed Media - Combined media of any type. Class 8: Photography Digital Enhanced. Class 9: Photography Traditional. Class 10: Sculpture (60 pound maximum weight).
