Heat advisory issued through midweek

The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a heat advisory, in effect Saturday Oct. 3 through late night Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Affected areas include Sacramento and the northern San Joaquin valleys, Delta and Carquinez Strait, and foothills.

High temperatures of 94 to 102 degrees are expected and low temperatures overnight are forecast in the mid 60s to low 70s, with widespread Moderate Heat Risk and areas of Major Heat Risk.

The heat advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses, especially to anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Hottest days as part of the heat advisory are expected to be Monday through Wednesday.

Precautionary action to take include: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Also take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
