The recent Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Sunday in the Park drew several participants and offered a number of projects aimed at Father’s Day gift giving.

Offered on the first Sunday in June, the activities in the city’s Main Street Park ranged from making fossils to decorating handmade cards for the upcoming Father’s Day holiday.

William Hecht, a downtown businessman and Chamber member, helped kids create their own fossils, adding scallop and oyster shells to the goopy mixture, then allowing it to dry. After that, it was broken open to reveal the ‘fossils’ encased inside the piece.

Elsewhere, stickers, crayons, markers and little bits of Escalon history through pictures and information were available at a table for use in creating handmade cards for dad.

Local singer Rich C. Olds provided the entertainment, there were a handful of classic automobiles on display and free popcorn and soda provided by the Escalon Historical Society. The historic caboose was also open for self-guided tours and representatives of the Escalon Library were on hand taking sign-ups for the Summer Reading Club and offering a book giveaway. Also available was a survey of what library patrons would like to see offered at the local branch.

The Chamber of Commerce hosts the Sunday in the Park day several times during the year.
