This week, a couple of unique community events will take place in Escalon, open to all interested.

First, on Thursday, Aug. 6, members of the Escalon Police Department will join forces with the local McDonald’s at 1960 McHenry Avenue for ‘Cone with a Cop’ as part of a community outreach. The ice cream cone gathering will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and all are encouraged to attend and enjoy a free ice cream cone, provided by McDonald’s, while visiting with Escalon police officers on site. Officials said it’s a chance for residents to ask questions of officers and build positive community-police connections. This is a fun, family-friendly event for the community.

Then, on Saturday, Aug. 8, it’s the 10th anniversary observance for the Escalon Youth Center. Located at 1328 Escalon Avenue, the Youth Center is a ministry of Trinity Church in Escalon and was the dream of the late Pastor Jim Davis, who first had the idea for the project in 2013, when he was serving as lead pastor at Trinity.

The Youth Center is open during lunch and after school during the school year and was built on the site of the former Escalon Motel.

The 10-year anniversary celebration is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 pm. on Saturday, with water games, music, some opportunity drawings, with Kona Ice and a taco truck on site as well. All in the community are encouraged to attend.
