Pull out the Christmas lights, decorate a bicycle or wagon, and sign up for the annual Christmas on Main light parade.

Sponsored by the Escalon Chamber of Commerce, the Christmas on Main 2009 celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5 starting with the opening of vendor booths at 3:30 p.m.

The Parade of Lights will start at 5:30 p.m. and run along the traditional parade route from Coley to First to Main Street and all entries in the parade must be adorned with some type of holiday lighting. Santa Claus is due to arrive at 6 p.m. and will meet with children to hear their holiday wishes.

There will also be fire pits for roasting marshmallows to make s'mores and there will be hay rides and entertainment.

Heading up the planning for this year's event is Robert Swift, who said entries are being accepted now for the parade and for vendor booths. Those who want to set up a booth to sell merchandise need to submit the application by Wednesday, Nov. 25. They are taken on a 'first come first serve' basis.

Swift said they also want to offer more activities in the Main Street Park area this year and, to that end, are looking for clubs, school groups, churches and more to take part.

The Chamber is asking local non-profit organizations to participate in providing activities or food and drink for the event, Swift said. They are also looking for those who would like to provide some musical entertainment and anyone interested can contact Swift at 595-5013.

Local businesses and organizations can gain exposure by offering a booth or hosting a fundraiser, with booths open from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. for the Christmas on Main festivities.
