The Escalon Wrestling Club competed in a SCWAY Tournament at Hilmar High School on Jan. 25. There were over 200 wrestlers at the event.

“We had 34 of our kids sign up and 30 wrestled with 21 placing,” said EWC coach Nate Nash. “We wrestled pretty well overall with seven champions.”

The EWC also had nine runners-up with Luca Cerasi, Ryan Lewis, and CJ Miller remaining undefeated on the season.

Hilmar High School Results:

5-6 year old age group: 1st Place: Luca Cerasi; 2nd Place: Malachi Coble.

7-8 year old age group: 1st Place: Matthew Freeseha, Ryan Lewis, Jamin Miller; 2nd Place: Zyler Moore, Frankie Rodriguez, Alex Gutierrez.

9-10 year old age group: 1st Place: CJ Miller, Christian Rowe; 2nd Place: Alex Gutierrez, EJ Lewis; 3rd Place: JW Mills.

11-12 year old age group: 1st Place: Garrett Nash; 2nd Place: Donnie Smith, Sebastian Snow, Levi Hales; 3rd Place: Luis Garcia, Nicholas Freeseha; 4th Place: Josh Miller.

13-15 year old age group: 3rd Place: Julian Gutierrez.

Next up for the EWC is a SCWAY tournament at Pitman High School in Turlock on Friday, Jan. 30.

“We scheduled this tournament on Friday evening as the Super Bowl is on Sunday and we definitely don’t want to try and compete with or miss that,” added Nash.
