There was plenty of action on the fields at Escalon High and the Escalon Community Center over the weekend, with the Dream Catchers Summer Pow Wow taking center stage.

Hosted by the local Dream Catchers 10 and under and 12 and under teams, the tournament featured 21 teams and was a fundraiser for the Dream Catchers, with the teams planning a trip to St. George, Utah July 16 through 23 for the NSA Western World Series. The weekend event was an NSA Qualifying Tournament.

There were three 10 and under teams, 10 teams in the 12 and under bracket and eight teams in the 16 and under division. The teams all played three games on Saturday and came back Sunday for single game eliminations.

A total of 50 games were played over the weekend, with two fields used at Escalon High and two at the Community Center.

Winners by divisions were the Escalon Dream Catchers in the 10 and under; Modesto Lady Warriors in the 12 and under; Magic Girls Fastpitch in the 16 and under bracket.

"The teams came from near and far," noted organizer Terry Brooks. "Some of the places were Mariposa, Sonora, Sunnyvale, Martinez and Fresno."

Playing in the 10 and under division were Dream Catchers, Sunnyvale Wicked and Hot Shots.

Teams in the 12 and under division were Dream Catchers, Hot Shots, Sierra Gold Rush, Hughson Hurricanes, Sunnyvale Wicked, Stanislaus Sting, Team Action, USA Blue, Lady Hawks and Modesto Lady Warriors.

Participating in the 16 and under bracket were Dinuba Wave, Hughson Hurricanes, Magic Girls Fastpitch, Heat, Manteca Diamond Magic, Mountain Thunder, Sizzle and Sunnyvale Wicked.

The Modesto Nuts mascot "Peanut" came to visit and threw out the first pitch for the 12:30 p.m. 12 and under game of Dream Catchers vs. Team Action of Riverbank on Saturday.

In addition, vendors were selling fresh fruit by Loretelli Farms, pizza by D'boni's, tri-tip sandwiches and smoothies, Cookie Lee Jewelry, with a photographer there to take pictures of the teams, players and father-daughter pictures for the Fathers Day weekend.

"We had a free raffle for the fathers and also had made beautiful baskets we raffled off," said Brooks. "Also we gave $50 savings bonds to two lucky players in each age group through our sponsors."

Among the local sponsors were Les Schwab Tires of Escalon, CT Brayton and Sons, Dugo Signs and the Escalon Lions Club purchased all the trophies for the first and second place winners from Just Rewards.

"We hope to make this an annual event due to its great success," said Brooks.
