San Joaquin County Supervisor Robert Rickman joined Senator Dave Cortese, Senator Shannon Grove, other state legislators, the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), and classic car enthusiasts at the State Capitol for an Aug. 12 rally supporting Senate Bill 1392 (SB 1392), also known as ‘Jay Leno’s Law.’
As a longtime supporter and advocate for the legislation, Supervisor Rickman attended the rally as an invited guest of Senator Cortese.
“It was an honor to join Senators Dave Cortese and Shannon Grove, SEMA, and classic car owners at the State Capitol in support of SB 1392,” Supervisor Rickman said. “This commonsense legislation would create a limited smog exemption for qualifying classic and collectible vehicles manufactured between 1976 and 1985, helping preserve an important part of California’s automotive history for future generations.”
The rally was held to build legislative momentum ahead of the Assembly Appropriations Committee hearing on Thursday, Aug. 13, where SB 1392 cleared the committee and advanced in the legislative process.
“I am pleased to see ‘Jay Leno’s Law’ advance and take another important step toward becoming law,” Supervisor Rickman said. “California is widely considered the birthplace of hot-rodding, and this legislation will help preserve that proud automotive heritage while supporting the aftermarket automotive industry, which contributes billions of dollars to our state’s economy.”
