Cougars Travel To Bret Harte Invitational Track, Field Meet

Heading out on the road to Angels Camp, members of the Escalon High School track and field team were at Bret Harte for the Hal Clements Invitational on Saturday, April 23.

“It was an invitational that had all four divisions for athletes; frosh/soph girls, frosh/soph boys, varsity girls and varsity boys. There were 14 teams in each division except for the varsity boys, there were 16 teams in that division,” explained head coach Carrie Nash.

Individuals earned team points for placing first through sixth place in each event and in the relays the first and second place teams scored points, the coach added.

“Our frosh/soph girls team placed third overall and the varsity boys placed fifth,” Nash said of the strong outing for the teams.

 

Frosh/Soph Girls Highlights (point earners)

Cali Granis ran an impressive time of 13.03 to win the 100m, she also anchored the 4x100 team that placed second; also on that team were, Sammy Lang, Lillian Brasil, and Lauren Rodriguez. In the 100m hurdles Katelyn Rodriguez was first running 19.37 and Katelyn Kjellberg was sixth. In the 400m Lauren Rodriguez was third. In the discus and shot put Chloe Farley was third, Alondra Gonzalez was fourth in the high jump with Sammy Lang and Emma Berchtold taking the fifth and sixth spots. In the long jump Sammy Lang was third. The 4x400 team of Lauren Rodriguez, Katelyn Rodriguez, Alondra Gonzalez and Sammy Lang were first.

 

Varsity Boys Highlights (point earners)

Logan Anderson was third in the 200, sixth in the long jump and helped the 4x100 team to a third place finish; also on that team were Preston Ball, Caden Gonsalves, and Owen Nash. In the shot put Preston Ball was second, Victor Romero was fourth, Casey Vassallo was fifth and Stephen Percey was sixth. Preston Ball earned a third place finish in the discus and Owen Nash was fifth in the high jump and sixth in the 400m.

300m hurdles - 5th Ali Pence, 6th Jill Junquiero

Discus - 4th Haylee Barajas, 5th Julia Warsing

Shot Put - 4th Haylee Barajas, Julia Warsing

4x400 team - 3rd Megan Fahey, Jill Junquiero, Joslyn Mangnuson and Ali Pence

 

Frosh/Soph Boys Highlights

300m hurdles - 3rd Julian Gonzalez

4x400 - 2nd Andrew Morales, Gabe Cortes, Ryan Barker and Marcos Grajeda

 

Escalon travels to Hughson for a TVL meet on April 27 and then have frosh/soph championships on Friday, April 29 in Ripon.
