It was in 1996 that the Escalon Cougars varsity football team went 13-0 and was crowned undefeated state champions.

This year, in 2026, that team will be honored during halftime of the varsity football game set for Friday, Sept. 11. That night, Escalon will host cross-county rival Oakdale in the Battle of 120, and the community will recognize the players that brought a state title to town.

There will be a Meet and Greet before the game for 1996 players, entry to the game, a special seating section, the halftime recognition on the field, and a Jumbotron tribute video.
