Ellen Bertha Rommel passed away February 22, 2023 in Modesto, CA at the age of 96. Ellen was born November 4, 1926 in Glencoe, Minnesota to parents Paul and Esther Streich. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Albert Rommel and they spent a wonderful 53 years together. She was very active in the community; she was an eager participant in the Republican Women, a 4-H leader, PTA secretary, an Election Polls volunteer, and she took on many different roles for her beloved church; St John’s Lutheran Church in Valley Home.
She and Al enjoyed square dancing and traveling in their travel trailer. They also loved to travel the States, including Hawaii, Alaska, along with Europe, Central and South America, China, the Caribbean.
More than anything else Mom loved her family and dearly loved having them together. She was a talented seamstress, a marvelous cook, a skillful gardener, and she loved to go to concerts, read, play cards, do jigsaw puzzles, needlework, line dance, Tai Chi, and walk. She was always conscientious about voting and subscribed to publications with very different views so she would be an informed voter. She was always concerned for the least of the people around her and was very generous with her support. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ellen is survived by her children; Janet Theilen (Ken) of Lodi and Carol Beckwith (Robert) of Linden. She is also survived by her grandchildren; David Theilen, Scott Theilen (Sheley), Arthur Beckwith and Daniel Beckwith and great-granddaughter, Samantha Theilen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Rommel and brother, Don Streich.
Deegan Funeral services is honored to serve the Rommel family. Ellen’s funeral service will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 with a viewing at 11 a.m., Chapel Service at 12 p.m. both held at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin St., Escalon, CA 95320 followed by a graveside service at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 East River Road, Escalon, CA 95320.
