A 76-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries following a Friday afternoon crash in the rural area of South Van Allen and Dodds roads outside Escalon. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman crashed about 3 p.m. on Oct. 23, her vehicle striking a concrete culvert, a power pole and then overturning on its side in a ditch, becoming partially submerged.

Responding emergency crews conducted an extrication and the woman, who authorities said was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was taken to a local hospital but died of her injuries there. She was identified by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office as Shobhana Surendrakumar Patel; no city of residence was provided by authorities.

Cause of the crash remains under investigation.
