At the Trans-Valley League Year-End Golf Tournament, hosted at Manteca Park Golf Course, Escalon’s Lady Cougars wrapped up team play.

The girls were paced by Genevieve Casazza at 111, followed by Elizabeth Allan, 121; Rose Percey, 125; Samantha Bruns, 136. Also playing was Taylor Bruns, who carded a 142.

Team scores showed Ripon taking the tournament with a 387, followed by Hilmar, 430; Hughson, 436; Livingston, 457; Riverbank, 468; Escalon, 493.

“The Ripon girls played some amazing scores and dominated the tournament,” said first year Escalon head coach Chris Casazza. “They finished the season undefeated. For second place in the TVL it came down to Hilmar and Hughson. The higher placing team in the tournament between those two, would take second in league. It was very close, and there was a lot of anticipation as the scores from those two teams came in.”

In the end, it was Hilmar placing second in the tournament and in the league standings.

“Placing sixth was not the way we wanted to finish the season, but our girls stayed positive,” Casazza said. “Genevieve Casazza was our top golfer in the tournament, placing 12th, followed by Elizabeth Allan placing 21st.”

Escalon did get a win in league play this season, but the coach noted that, for many players, the best part of the season was in the connections, not the scores.

“Having become friends with many of the girls from other teams, our girls enjoyed playing with them one final time for the season,” he explained. “Some lasting friendships have definitely been made. The girls also talked about how they will miss many of the graduating seniors from the other teams.”

Escalon’s lone golfer advancing to the CIF Division 5 Tournament was Genevieve Casazza, a junior who will be among the many returners next year. She was to play at Manteca Park Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 23 in that competition, and was named as a TVL All-League player.

“The final tournament was definitely bittersweet for me as a first-year coach. I made it through my first season, and although I will continue to learn and improve, I feel pretty good about how things went overall. We had amazing team chemistry, and the vibe was very positive,” noted Casazza. “We have a strong foundation moving forward, and a full team of returning girls for next year. I am confident the results will come, and that Escalon will rise in the rankings. I am sad that I have to wait until next August to get started again.”
