Four returning players should provide a solid base from which to work for the Escalon Lady Cougars on the golf course this season.

Seniors Bella Ambro and Sarah Bava, as well as juniors Lucy Allbaugh and Gracie Bracco are suiting up for the team once again.

“Kelsey Webster is a junior and just started playing golf after we convinced her to play,” coach Kristie Cathcart said of herself and co-coach Martin Louro recruiting some new players for this season. “I also have two freshmen, Genevieve Casazza and Jordan Lovette.”

The team had a couple of scrimmages this past week, going against West on Aug. 17 and then welcoming in Riverbank on Aug. 19.

West brought just two players for their scrimmage and the Lady Cougars and Lady Bruins did not play the full nine holes on Thursday but did get in some work.

League action begins this week with matches against Amador and Ripon.

“It has been awhile since we have played certain teams in the VFL (Valley Foothill League) north, so I am not sure how other teams will compare,” Cathcart noted, adding that her players did post some good scores during their scrimmages.
