Track and field boys, girls finish fourth at TVL finals

Heading to nearby Ripon, members of the Escalon track and field team suited up to compete with the other Trans-Valley League schools in the Varsity Finals meet on Thursday, May 7. Individually, many Escalon athletes performed quite well and qualified for the Division 5 meet, scheduled for May 13 at Riverbank.

Head coach Arend Jones said the varsity girls finished fourth, “a mere 0.5 points behind” third place Orestimba. Hughson finished first.

The Escalon varsity boys also finished fourth behind third place Sonora, while host Ripon finished first.

Here is a look at some of the top performances.

VARSITY GIRLS

200 Meter Sprint - Freshman Sandra Rowe finished 5th, qualified as an alternate with a time of 29.08 seconds.

400 Meter Dash - Sophomore Georgia Northcutt finished 4th qualifying with a time of 1:02.02.

100m Hurdles - Sophomore Ava Rodriguez finished 4th qualifying with a time of 17.2 seconds.

300m Hurdles - Ava Rodriguez finished 3rd qualifying with a time of 47.93 seconds.

Girls 4x100 Relay - Finished 5th qualifying as an alternate with a time of 53.42 seconds. Seniors Annabelle Armstrong and Jasmine Barron, junior Brynn Caton and freshman Sandra Rowe were the relay team members.

Girls 4x400 Relay - Finished 4th qualifying with a time of 4:23.39. Team members were sophomores Ava Rodriguez, Addison Correia, Georgia Northcutt and freshman Sandra Rowe.

Shot Put - Seniors Gracie Airola, Marissa Terry, and Natalie Worley finished 1st, 2nd, and 5th with throws of 32 feet 4.75 inches, 29 feet 2.75 inches, and 28 feet 0 inches respectively.

Discus - Seniors Marissa Terry and Gloria Segura finished 2nd & 3rd qualifying with throws of 106 feet 6 inches and 103 feet 7 inches respectively.

High Jump - Junior Rachelle Barker and sophomore Ronni Keo finished 3rd & 5th, both with jumps of 4 feet 10 inches.

Pole Vault - Senior Annabelle Armstrong and sophomore Georgia Northcutt finished 3rd & 4th both qualifying with vaults of 8 feet 3 inches.

VARSITY BOYS

100 Meter Sprint - Sophomores Jake Ferreira and Ian Trejo finished 3rd and 4th, with qualifying with times 11.42 and 11.5 seconds respectively.

400 Meter Dash - Senior Co Northcutt, sophomore Fidel Segura and senior Otto Perreira finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th qualifying with times of 52.09, 53.12, and 54.21 seconds respectively.

300m Hurdles - Sophomore Ian Trejo finished 2nd qualifying with a time of 43.22 seconds.

Boys 4x100 Relay - Finished 4th qualifying with a time of 44.53 seconds with team members senior Co Northcutt, junior K’oz Castro, sophomores Jake Ferreira and Ian Trejo.

Boys 4x400 Relay - Finished 4th qualifying with a time of 3:42.84. Seniors Co Northcutt & Otto Perreira, Sophomore Fidel Segura, and Freshman Yandel Andrade.

Shot Put - Junior Jaecy Aldasoro finished 5th qualifying as an alternate with a throw of 40 feet 7.25 inches.

Discus - Jaecy Aldasoro finished 4th qualifying with a throw of 131 feet 6 inches.

High Jump - Sophomore Ian Trejo finished 3rd qualifying with a jump of 5 feet 9 inches.

Long Jump - Sophomore Jake Ferreira finished 5th qualifying as an alternate with a jump of 20 feet 2.5 inches.

Triple Jump - Sophomores Jake Ferreira and Fidel Segura finished 3rd & 4th qualifying with jumps of 40 feet 8.25 inches & 39 feet 10 inches respectively.

“These athletes will get to compete at Riverbank on Wednesday afternoon (May 13), said Jones. “Top nine finishers qualify for Divisional Finals on Saturday (May 16) at Hughes Stadium, Sac City College.”
