A match with Riverbank in Trans-Valley League action saw Escalon’s tennis team fall by a 6-3 final in favor of the host Bruins.
The contest was on Tuesday, April 16 and featured six tiebreakers.
Wins for Escalon came at number one girls singles and both boys doubles matches.
Mya Beary won 6-6 (7-1), 2-6, 6-0; number one boys doubles Jack Fitzgerald and Eli Lattig came away with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory and boys doubles number two Evan Shafter and Dylan Criteser won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Losses came for Wyatt McCune and Chaz Cisneros in boys singles, Mikayla Schut at girls number two singles, as well as both girls doubles teams, Elizabeth Shelley and Madison Faria, Madelyn Page and Ella Adams and the mixed doubles, Kara Kennedy and Trent Berchtold.
“We are now tied for first in league with Riverbank,” coach Jackey Blakeley said. “We must beat Ripon to remain tied.”
Along with the league match at Riverbank, the girls faced off with Millennium on Thursday, April 18.
Escalon won 4-0 with straight sets victories for all. Beary was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at girls number one singles, Schut went 6-0, 6-1 at girls number two singles. Number one girls doubles Shelley and Faria won 6-0, 6-2 and number two girls doubles Page and Adams didn’t drop a set, winning 6-0, 6-0.
The team was slated to play Ripon in its last regular season match on Tuesday, April 23 after The Times went to press and then head into the TVL Tournament, set for Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 in Modesto.
