Young athlete Erica Swanson has been busy this summer making a splash in her wakeboard and water ski competitions.

Erica, 13, attends Valley Home School and is entering the eighth grade there. She is also a 4-H member of Valley Home School and showed her horse at this year's fair.

A member of Mid Valley Water Ski Club and (JDT) junior development team, they practice at Modesto reservoir with the club president and coach Nick Martin.

Erica participated in her first INT Amateur skiing and wakeboard tournament in July at Wolf Lakes in Fresno, where she turned in an impressive second place in slalom, and first place in wakeboard on Saturday, July 18.

She came back to perform even better on Sunday, July 19 when she recorded a personal best with first place in both wakeboard with 1225 points and first place in slalom skiing competing at 15 off at 21 mph and 5 balls.

On Aug. 1 and 2, she competed at an INT tournament at Villa Logo's in Red Bluff where she took first place in slalom with 15 off at 21 mph with 12 balls and fourth place in wakeboard with 765 points on Saturday.

In Sunday's events, she did both again with a personal best first place in slalom 15 off at 21 mph with 12 balls and third place in wakeboard with 1248 points.

With the possibility of being invited back to participate in the INT Regional Championships being held at Villa Logo's in Red Bluff in October, Erica will continue to compete in skiing and wakeboard through the end of August.
