Softball Tournament

The 16th annual Pizza Plus Dr. V Classic softball tournament will be held July 30 and 31 at Oakdale's Kerr Park. It will be sponsored by Pizza Plus restaurants and the YES Foundation benefiting the youth recreational programs in the San Joaquin Valley. The tournament's classification will be USSSA D and below with a three-game guarantee. Entry fee is a $200 minimum donation. YES is a non-profit organization with federal status so all entry fees will be deductible. In conjunction with the event, a dinner-dance will be held on Saturday night. Businesss interested in donating trophies, raffle prizes or items for the silent auction can call Cricket Justice-Limes at 888-220-1453. Junior Golf Classes

Sign-ups are underway for Junior Golf Classes at the Escalon Golf Course. Instructors John DeFilippi and Stan Maggard are offering the sessions, each of which include five 90-minute lessons, $20 in range balls, on course instruction, and a rules seminar. Golf clubs are available during class at no charge.

Sign up now for the next session, set for Saturdays, July 23 and 30, and August 7, 13, and 20; 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Registration is $95 per student. As class size is limited, it is advised that interested students sign up early.

Baseball Camp Planned

Dates have been set for the annual Summer Baseball Camp at Rainbow Fields in Riverbank, with Rob Deer and Eric Bell joining forces to offer their sixth annual camp. Dates are June 27 through June 29, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Rainbow Fields, 3800 Claribel Road. Cost is $190 and that includes the professional instruction, camp T-shirt and camp awards. Deer, an outfielder with 20 years of professional baseball experience and Bell, a left-handed pitcher with 125 professional wins, oversee the camp. For more information, contact Bell at 480-326-5399.
