With some fans in the stands and plenty of action on the courts, Escalon’s varsity, JV and freshman volleyball teams all had the opportunity to get in some play in neighboring Oakdale on Saturday, Aug. 14.

“Our round robin on Saturday consisted of four high schools: Golden Valley, Escalon, Beyer, and Oakdale (GEBO). It is an annual scrimmage that our four schools have been doing for the past 20-plus years,” explained Escalon varsity head coach Teresa Williamson.

All three levels participated in 30-minute rounds, facing off with each of the other three teams, said Williamson. The varsity played first, starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with the JV following, and freshman finishing later in the day.

“Our varsity girls played amazing,” Williamson said enthusiastically. “We started the day strong against Golden Valley and only got better from there, with our best round of play being our last round against Oakdale.”

After taking on Golden Valley to start the scrimmage, Escalon then took on Beyer and finally the Oakdale Lady Mustangs.

“The girls were on fire at every point,” Williamson noted. “Judging from this past weekend, this is going to be a fun season and a great team to watch. JV and freshmen also had a successful scrimmage. Although no one kept score, our younger squads dominated the competition.”

Next up for the team, the varsity girls will head to the Orestimba Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 21 and all three teams will be busy on the home court for the season opener on Monday, Aug. 23 as they host Ripon Christian in non-league play. Freshmen are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.; JV at 5 p.m.; varsity at 6 p.m.
