Shutting out both opponents, the varsity soccer girls put two more Trans-Valley League wins on the books this week.
They were on the road at Ripon for a Wednesday, April 7 contest and defeated the host Indians, 2-0.
"Kacey Ball had a goal and Christina Balcita had the assist," said coach Craig Humrichouse. "Kaity Bojorquez also got a goal, Severa Salazar had the assist."
Natalie Gallego was in goal and made three saves.
"Aprille Ray had an outstanding match defensively for us that day," noted Humrichouse.
Escalon pounded the goal with shots but many were turned away.
"They are pretty tough defensively," the coach said of Ripon. "There was no score at halftime."
Escalon also went into the week with a few players coming back off injuries, with Holly Guille and Crystal Achterberg back in the line-up.
Friday at home, hosting Livingston, the Lady Cougars simply overpowered the Wolves.
"Livingston is a weaker team but we played very, very well," said Humrichouse. "They were down some players, with some injuries and some players gone for vacation."
The final was an 11-0 Escalon victory but the score could have been much worse, as the squad was seemingly scoring at will.
"It would have been a lot worse is we kept pressing," Humrichouse said.
Christina Balcita led the way with four goals, including some impressive runs where she charged past the defense and gave the Livingston keeper shots much too hot to handle.
Cherie Homen and Kaity Bojorquez added three goals each, Borjorquez also had two assists. Kacey Ball had a goal and two assists, Jacki Garside notched an assist.
"It was 7-0 at the half," Humrichouse said. "Natalie Gallego had two saves and it was just an overall good game. We started the match with some of our reserves and it was nice to see them get the start and get a lot of playing time."
Lindsay Richards had a good game at halfback for the Lady Cougars, London Crooker provided her solid play at fullback.
"Christina Balcita just had an outstanding match, she's a tremendous little athlete," noted Humrichouse. "She has speed, strength, ball control, she does it all."
The varsity girls improved to 6-1 in league play with the wins and are at 14-4-1 overall.
The JV Lady Cougars, meanwhile, were having a field day of their own, shutting out Ripon and Livingston this week as well. The girls defeated Ripon 6-0 and also topped Livingston by the same 6-0 margin.
"They're beginning to understand that it's not just one person," Humrichouse said of the JV girls, who are coached by his daughter, Jamie Humrichouse. "They're working up and down the field, doing well, coming together."
