Six Cougars Help North Stars To Victory

Putting on the jerseys and helmets one final time as teammates, six recent Escalon High graduates played for the winning North team in the Small Schools All-Star Football game played at Ripon on July 9.

Representing Escalon were Jesse Miguel, Tony Reis, Nate Williamson, Marshall Rockey, Nolan Krasko and Dom Chap.

The North stars held on for a 6-0 win in a defensive battle, the only scores coming on two field goals. Modesto Christian graduate Connor Pearce put the two through the uprights, one from 22 yards out late in the first quarter and the clincher coming in the third quarter from 30 yards out.

The teams got about two weeks of practice time in before suiting up for the game and for many, it was the first time in an organized game of football since closing out their season last school year.

For the Escalon group, it gave them a chance to put one more win in their scrapbook, adding an exclamation point to their Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV championship season in 2003.

It was a game dominated by the defense, as the North team rolled up just 148 total yards on the night while limiting the South to 115. The North team fumbled three times and lost the ball twice, and was penalized twice for 15 yards. The South team fumbled twice and lost it once, and was penalized four times for a total of 50 yards.
