A new year brings new hope for all 32 NFL teams. The San Francisco 49ers are welcoming in the 2019 season with open arms. If preseason is any indication of how the 49ers’ regular season campaign will go, they will take it. The 49ers finished the preseason with a 3-1 record and remained relatively healthy throughout.

Last season was a nightmare health wise for the team. San Francisco lost running back Jerick McKinnon and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to season ending injuries early in the season. Already this season McKinnon suffered a setback in his knee that will cost him all of 2019 as well. Rookie Nick Bosa, the team’s first round draft choice, missed all of preseason and his week one status is up in the air too.

Moving forward to the guys who are ready for week one, though, include newly acquired running back Tevin Coleman, rookie wide receiver Debo Samuel, rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd and Garoppolo.

The backfield is a crowded one for the 49ers but with the absence of McKinnon it is a good problem to have. Coleman is expected to be the workhorse but will share carries with Matt Breida, Raheem Moster and Austin Walter.

A returning Garoppolo will have options to throw to as he will have Marquise Goodwin, Samuel, Hurd, Dante Pettis and pro bowl tight end George Kittle at his side. The offensive line is built around Joe Staley, Laken Tomlinson, Ben Garland and Mike Person.

On the defensive side of the ball, the 49ers feature Solomon Thompson, DeForest Buckner, Dee Ford, Kwon Alexander, Richard Sherman and Jimmie Ward.

This past weekend the NFL teams made their cuts to reduce their roster to 53 and the 49ers were no different. Casualties included: defensive back Antone Exum Jr., safety Marcell Harris, wide receiver Jordan Matthews, linebacker David Mayo and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. The 49ers open the season on the road against Tampa Bay on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8. The 49ers finished last season 4-12, third in the NFC West.
