Some personal bests and a trip to the Masters Meet were the outcome of track and field Section competition for the Escalon Cougars.

Tuesday and Thursday featured competition at Modesto Junior College in the Section meet, with senior Jenna Price the lone advancing Cougar to the Masters, qualifying with her second place showing in the pole vault at 10-0.

"They take the top six in each event from the Section to the Masters Meet," explained coach Roger Beeman.

Price, who qualified for the Section meet in three events, opted to compete in just two, doing the pole vault and the high jump.

"She'd had enough fun doing the vault that she didn't do the long jump but her average jump would have made it to Masters," Beeman added. "She did go 4-8 in the high ump, which was eighth."

Junior teammate Corrisa Bolls cleared the same height, 4-8, but took more tries than Price, finishing ninth.

Senior Kendra Huntley had qualified for the Section meet in discus but had to bow out.

"It was finals week, she had testing conflicts so she didn't get to compete," Beeman said.

Her average throw would have likely put her at fourth or fifth place and going to Masters as well, noted the coach.

Steven Hazen went ninth in the discus at 125-6 and Beeman said he was pleased to see Hazen break into the top 10 in the Section after all his hard work.

It was also a good day for senior Paul Quiroz, who had qualified for both shot put and discus at Sections and though he missed out on the Masters Meet cut, he did throw a pair of personal bests.

"He won his flight in shot put but didn't advance to the finals, he threw a 41-2 and in the discus he was 10th, 118-7," Beeman said. "It was nice for him as a senior, his last meet, to go to Sections in two events and get two PR's, that's a nice finish."

Sophomore Tyler Yost threw the shot put 38-10 in his Section appearance.

"Overall, I was pretty happy with their performances," Beeman said of his athletes.

Price will be at the Masters Meet on Thursday, Mary 26 at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento.
