After spending several weeks practicing and honing their skills, members of the Escalon Swim Team, the Orcas, will hit the road on Friday for their first swim meet of the season.
They won't travel too far, heading across the bridge at the San Joaquin-Stanislaus County line to take on the host Riverbank Barracudas in a meet slated for 6 p.m. on July 11.
Leading the team this year are coaches Deborah Hawkins and Joy Metzler, back for another season, with several meets scheduled over the next few weeks. The first meet, this Friday, will be at Riverbank, followed by a home meet on Friday, July 18. Then it's back to Riverbank for a July 25 meet and home again on Friday, Aug. 1. All swim meets will begin at 6 p.m.
