Netters Put Match In Win Column Over Ripon

Staying on top of their game despite limited action in the rain-soaked week, Escalon tennis players took a 5-2 win off the court over Ripon on Thursday.

It was their only match of the week and helped the Cougars improve to 4-0 in Trans-Valley League play.

Grant Tower kept up his solid play in boys number one singles, defeating Paul Hogan 6-0, 6-2. Tyson Lane of Escalon fell to Ripon's Brad Murdoch at number two boys, 2-6, 4-6.

In girls play, Breanne Cardoza was a 7-6 (2), 6-1 winner over Ripon's Danielle Gannon and Brittany Rigg of Escalon was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Stephanie Morris.

In doubles play, Cougars Johan Ehde and Brandon Longstreth fell to the Ripon boys, Joffrey McClure and Cedrick Munoz, 7-6 (6), 2-6, 4-6. Staci Gentry and Coral Rocha teamed for the win for Escalon in girls doubles, taking a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Micaela Fitch and Carla Lopez while the mixed doubles tandem of Rick Drewrey and Tiffany McGuire worked out a 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over Ripon's Jerry Fraser and Brooke McCauley.

Tuesday's match on March 22 with Riverbank was rained out and will be rescheduled. The Cougars are off this week for spring break but will play next at River City on Wednesday, April 6 and then face off with Livingston in TVL action on Friday, April 8.
