The Escalon Wrestling Club (EWC) had 28 wrestlers compete in the Oakdale Jr. Classic SCWAY tournament on Sunday, Dec. 15 with 13 of them placing. The tournament had over 420 wrestlers compete. In the Beginner division in the 5-6 age group Alex Guitierrez won gold and Xander Birakos took third in their respective weight classes. In the 7-8 age group Matt Freeseha won gold, Sammy Hinojosa and Cruz Snow each took third. In the 11-12 age group, Levi Hale took fourth while Donnie Smith took second and Julian Guitierrez took third. In the Advanced Division in the 7-8 age group, Logan Anderson took third in a very impressive effort and Christian Rowe matched his accomplishment. In the 9-10 age group EJ Lewis took second as did Sebastion Snow. In the 11-12 age group Garrett Nash battled back from a first round loss to the eventual tournament champion to win his next five matches and take third.

“The kids wrestled really well,” said EWC head coach Nate Nash. “Even the kids, like Avery Jones, who didn’t place had good performances and continue to improve.”
