Varsity Volleyball Girls End NorCal Run

Completing their season with participation in the NorCal Tournament, Escalon’s varsity volleyball girls crafted a first round victory on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

The girls traveled to Napa to take on sixth seeded Justin Siena. Going in as the number 11 seed in the NorCals, Escalon took a 3-1 win on the road in the contest. They won the first game 25-20 and then fell 18-25 as the home team knotted the match. But two more wins, 25-20 and 25-23, earned the Lady Cougars the right to advance to the second round.

That game was also on the road, the action in the CIF Division V tournament sending the girls to Watsonville for a Saturday, Nov. 18 contest against the number three seed Mt. Madonna. They had a first round bye so came in to the contest rested, but Escalon put together an outstanding first game and surprised the host squad, 25-20.

After getting that first game, Escalon battled but couldn’t get another victory, falling 23-25, 21-25, 14-25 to Mt. Madonna to lose by a 3-1 verdict in their season finale.

The girls, who were third in the Trans-Valley League with an 8-4 record, ended the season with an overall mark of 18-12, battling past the first round of both the Section and NorCal tournaments.
