Spring Sports Season Waiting In Wings

Practices and scrimmages have started, with games and matches soon to follow for spring sports at Escalon High School.

Baseball, softball, tennis, track and field and boys golf are the spring sports for the Cougars.

The varsity baseball team traveled to Gregori for a Saturday scrimmage with the host school and Sierra this past weekend while the JV boys hosted Gregori and Sierra. On the schedule for Friday, Feb. 23 is a game hosting Ceres at 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday, an 11 a.m. contest is scheduled on the home diamonds against Calaveras. The Cougars then travel to Manteca for a game at Sierra on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m.

Softball players were scheduled to be at home for a scrimmage against Amador on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and will also scrimmage Calaveras on the home field on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Feb. 27, the JV and varsity girls head to Linden and on Wednesday, Feb. 28 they hit the road for a game against East Union in Manteca, scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.

Tennis action for the Cougars starts on the road with a match against Orestimba in Newman on Monday, Feb. 26 at 3:30 p.m. and then a match at Ripon Christian on Tuesday, Feb. 27, also scheduled at 3:30 p.m.

Action for the track and field participants is scheduled to start in Los Gatos, at the All Comers Meet scheduled for a noontime start on Saturday, Feb. 24.

On the links, the boys golf team was scheduled to host Linden in a scrimmage at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, Feb. 20. They are to travel to Greenhorn Creek to face Bret Harte on Wednesday, Feb. 21 and then go to Diablo Grande for a match against Orestimba on Tuesday, Feb. 27. They will be at Escalon Golf Course for a match against Calaveras on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Some of the athletes for spring sports remain involved in winter competition, with wrestling, boys soccer and girls soccer all making the postseason.
