Solid Start To Soccer Season For Lady Cougars

A third place showing at the Ripon Christian Tournament capped off a busy week for the varsity Lady Cougars soccer team.

At Linden for a Monday, Nov. 27 contest the squad came away with a 4-3 victory. Goals came from Mya Beary (2), Kyleigh Raffety and Dalsin Alves with assists from Alves, Morgan Dominguez and Georgina Gallo. Leticia Gutierrez had three saves.

“Wednesday at Argonaut we won 10-0,” said coach Jamie Peoples.

Scoring two goals apiece were Katie Erazo and Mya Beary with additional tallies from Alondra Martinez, Dalsin Alves, Alyssa Wilkerson, Morgan Dominguez and Peyton Arnold and assists from Karla Cordova, Gabby Goodman (2), Mya Beary and Georgina Gallo (2).

Tournament action saw the varsity girls craft a 1-0 win over Bret Harte with Dominguez scoring off an assist from Gallo. Gutierrez had two saves. Against Ripon, the squad fell 2-1 with Gutierrez making five saves and Gallo scoring the lone Lady Cougar goal.

Then it was a 2-0 win over Los Banos with goals form Dominguez and Wilkerson, assists from Kaitlyn Castro and Martinez.

“Third place finish and Alondra and Morgan made the All-Tournament Team,” Peoples said of the successful weekend.

The JV soccer girls had just one contest on their schedule for the week, playing against Linden on Monday, Nov. 27 and ending in a 3-3 tie with the Lions. One goal for Escalon went in off Linden for an own goal, while Iris Lagunas got the second goal off a corner kick from Liz Cortes and Lagunas also scored the third goal for Escalon on an assist from Kailey Costa.
