Escalon’s varsity softball girls will start their 2017 playoff run with a home game on Wednesday, May 17, hosting Orestimba in a 4 p.m. contest.

The varsity boys, meanwhile, will head to Billy Hebert Field in Stockton on Thursday, May 18 for a 7 p.m. contest.

Both teams were crowned Trans-Valley League champions, the girls finishing at 12-0 in league and 19-4 overall. The boys had a pair of contests this past week and defeated Hilmar, improving to 23-4 overall and also completing an undefeated league season, going 12-0.

The girls get the benefit of staying home, and will welcome the Orestimba Warriors.

“They are well coached,” said Escalon head coach Art Brooks.

Orestimba comes in with a 12-15 overall record and they finished their league campaign with an 8-6 mark.

For the boys, they will play the winner of the ‘play in’ game and the Cougars are the top seed in Division V. The play-in game was Monday night, May 15 and pitted number eight Bret Harte against number nine West Campus. Bret Harte took a 1-0 win in eight winnings, getting a walk off home run.

Escalon now faces Bret Harte on Thursday night, with the other game on their side of the bracket pitting number four Dixon against number five Mountain House.

“The first round is single elimination,” head coach Greg Largent said. “If we get by that first game, then we go into a series.”
