Sixth Annual Benefit Ride For Mom A Family Event

Hundreds of cyclists of all ages and riding abilities will gather on Saturday morning, May 13 in Modesto for the sixth annual Ride for Mom (RFM) family and charity cycling event presented by Doctors Medical Center to promote healthy lifestyle choices.

The event includes rides of 10, 35 and 77 miles. Check-in at Johansen High School opens at 6:30 a.m. and the rides begin at 10 a.m., 8 a.m. and 7 a.m., respectively. Each route through east Modesto and nearby areas of Stanislaus County is fully supported with maps, course markings and rest stops. Bike mechanics will be available before the ride to check equipment. The first 500 participants receive a T-shirt. The fun day winds up with lunch and live music.

Registration fees range from $15 to $70, depending on the route.

In addition, the RFM Organizing Team will host an early check-in and a pre-ride social gathering on Friday, May 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Green’s on Tenth in downtown Modesto.

The Organizing Team is excited that Doctors Medical Center is the presenting sponsor for this year’s event. DMC supports educational and human service projects and is focused on improving the community’s health through the pursuit of wellness. DMC’s significant support will assist in continuing the viability of the event.

Children on tricycles or bicycles are welcome to attend the first RFM Bike Safety Course. They will learn the signs and signals of the roadway for safer riding while going through a course made just for them. This inaugural event will also take place at Johansen High School between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on May 13.

Over the past five years, RFM has distributed more than $44,000 in grants, bicycles and helmets to groups that support RFM’s purpose to “Be active, eat healthy, live better.” This year, beneficiaries of RFM grants will include Teens Run Modesto, Bi-National Health Fair (El Concilio),The Society for Disabilities, Boys and Girls Club of Stanislaus County and the Tuolumne River Trust.

Ride for Mom, Inc. is an all-volunteer effort and is organized as a California non-profit corporation with IRS 501(c)(3) status.
