Action for Escalon on the links this past week saw them fall to Sonora by the slimmest of margins and then take care of Linden.

At Mountain Springs, a par 36 course, the final score was Sonora 205, Escalon 206. Madison Kindberg paced the team with a round of 44, followed by Angelica Fernandez at 46. Scores by other team members included Mary Adams, 57; Amanda Rickman, 59; Shelby McCune, 63; Ellie Cunningham, 66.

“We played at Mountain Springs which is a difficult course,” said head coach Kristie Cathcart. “Last year we tied and then lost in the tie breaker. After the first four girls we were ahead by six but their number five shot a 55 that gave them a 205. We count the best four scores out of six.”

Back at home for a match, the final was Escalon 164, Linden 194, the girls crafting a 30-stroke win on their own course.

Kindberg shot a 34, Adams 40, Fernandez 41, McCune 49, Rickman 51 and Cunningham 53.

“Linden only has two returners on their team this year. I gave a couple of girls goals for the match that we need to meet if we are going to beat a very good Ripon team next week,” noted Cathcart. “The team is starting to realize what we need to work on to continue to get better and we will spend this week getting ready for a tough week ahead.”

The JV golfers will have their first match against Hughson and Bret Harte on Wednesday. Next week Escalon has a tournament on Monday, play at Ripon on Tuesday and start second round of league with Bret Harte at home on Thursday.
