Labor Day Weekend Triathlon Slated In Bear Valley Village

The picturesque setting of Alpine County will be the location of the 24th annual Bear Valley Triathlon. The popular central Sierra Labor Day Weekend tradition will be held on Sunday morning, Sept. 4 (day before Labor Day Monday), at Bear Lake, in Bear Valley Village.

Nestled in a beautiful mountain location, the triathlon course features a 600-yard swim (warm water, close to 70 degrees, wet suits are allowed, but not necessary); a 10.5-mile bike (rolling, climbing loop course); and a 3.4-mile run (rolling road). Air temperature will be approximately 70 degrees by 10:30 a.m. The triathlon will conclude with the awards ceremony, raffle, and a barbecue.

Entry fee includes refreshments, T-shirt, awards, raffle ticket, awards, and post-race barbecue lunch with beer (for those 21 and older). The Bear Valley Triathlon entry fee is $75 advance and $85 race day. Team fee (three participants, registering at the same time) is $200 advance and $220 race day. All participants must provide and wear a swim cap for the swim and an ANSI approved bike helmet during the bike.

The traditional On Your Mark Events’ soapstone trophies will be awarded to the first overall male and female winners and etched glass trophies will be given to the masters overall male and female finishers. The top three finishers (male and female categories) age groups in ten-year increments to 70-years-old and over, will receive engraved medals. The top male, female, and co-ed teams triathlon teams will also be awarded medals.

Race check-in and registration will open at 8:30 a.m., followed by the start-time at 10 a.m.

Bear Valley Village is located on Bear Valley Road, just off of Highway 4 in Bear Valley, Alpine County. Following the race, the awards ceremony and barbecue will be held around 1 p.m., lunch will be available to non-entrants for $10 and at a cost of $7 for kids.
